Fishing offshore of the Keys is split into two main seasons. Winter season (October thru April) and the summer season (May thru Sept). Each season encompasses its own angling opportunities. Sailfish is the primary winter species and Dolphin is the primary summer species.

Offshore anglers can expect a blend of fishing opportunities using both conventional and fly tackle. Sailfish, Dolphin (Mahi Mahi), Tuna, Wahoo, King Mackerel, and an array of reef fish which boast a healthy supply of Snapper and Grouper species make Islamorada a perfect place to bend a rod year round. Marlin both blue and white show up frequently enough to warrant that captain and crew be prepared when one happens along. Another unique offshore angling opportunity is the Permit. The Permit, which calls shallow water home most of the year venture offshore to the deeper wrecks in April, May and June. These fish are big (20 – 40lbs) and hungry with multiple hook ups the norm when fishing is hot. Sharks are another interesting angling option and are readily present in the warm tropical water off Islamorada. Numerous Hammerhead, Tiger, and Mako Sharks are caught here each year. Big is the word, with sizes usually ranging from 200 to 500lbs with the 1000lb shark a distinct possibility. Dolphin in summer and Sailfish in winter along with a long list of supporting cast make this destination a drag screaming rod bending paradise.
